EXPERT TIPS: THE ENFANCE PARIS’ NOSES
02. 02. 2023

The world of perfumery, for many, is full of mysteries. How does one work on the creation of a perfume? Who are the different actors of the perfumery world? How are the scents chosen?

At Enfance Paris, we are committed to opening the doors of the creation of our products to you. This allows us to be more transparent about the design of our products, but also to let you discover more about the work done on the products we offer to you and your children.

To take you into the design process of our Eaux de Toilette, we asked a few questions to Amélie Bourgeois and Anne-Sophie Behaghel, founders of the Flair studio and nose for Enfance Paris.

Could you introduce yourself in a few words?

The Flair studio, founded ten years ago by Amélie Bourgeois and Anne-Sophie Behaghel, with the complicity of Martine Denisot, wishes to unleash the creativity of perfumery.

Flair is in line with the independent laboratories founded by Monique Schlienger who, in the 1970s, dreamed of a perfumery far from the shackles of the polite mass perfumery industry. Amélie and Anne-Sophie wish to push the limits of creation and dare to create an ever freer perfumery.

Flair works without intermediaries. Each project is carried out in a climate of trust and the tests are refined to come as close as possible to the requested needs.

Over the past five years, the team has grown by welcoming Camille Chermadin, junior perfumer and more recently, Margaux Le Paih-Guérin.

Flair has also taken a stand on an issue that revives old quarrels between art and craft by proposing a reflection on olfactory creation as an art by collaborating with Sandra Barré, a specialist in olfactory art.

Could you explain to us what the job of a nose in the world of perfumery consists of?

Our job consists in translating into scents the universes of brands with multiple inspirations. We compose under the impulse of the artistic directors, in a more or less free way.

How did you work on the design of Enfance Paris eaux de toilette?

We met Agnès, the founder of Enfance Paris, through mutual friends. She wanted to develop an eau de toilette for her children's cosmetics brand. Her idea was to make a contemporary eau de toilette for the whole family, children, parents, brothers, sisters, and to use the image of the family coat of arms, which unites all generations around the same sign, in this case around the same fragrance. We started with eau de cologne, one of the oldest perfumes and we modernized it. We thought it was a good parallel with the idea of tradition, transmission, and family identity. The water that was designed for Enfance is very fresh and musky.

Would you have an anecdote to tell us about your work/that you have experienced in your work?

For the eau de toilette, we proposed two tracks to Agnès who asked us to focus on one of them but with modifications.  After a lot of back and forth to more classic notes, more aromatic and more citrusy. Modernity was almost... too modern. Then it was finally the first try that was validated, as often with many customers :)

Thanks to Amélie and Anne-Sophie for answering our questions. We hope this article has allowed you to learn more about the work we do with Studio Flair and the conception of our Eaux de Toilette.
